Widow Takes Legal Action Following Husband's Tragic MRI Death
Adrienne Jones-McAllister, a 61-year-old widow, has initiated a lawsuit against Nassau Open MRI after her husband, Keith McAllister, also 61, was fatally injured when an MRI machine violently sucked him in. The tragic incident occurred on July 16, 2025, at a radiology office in New York, where Keith had accompanied his wife for her knee MRI appointment.
Chain Leads to Catastrophic Accident
According to court documents, Keith was wearing a large metallic chain around his neck, which caused him to be drawn into the powerful magnetic field of the MRI machine. The legal complaint states that the clinic failed to warn him about the dangers of wearing metal in the MRI room and negligently allowed him to enter despite the hazardous conditions.
Adrienne witnessed the entire event, holding her husband as he sustained severe injuries. She described how he went limp in her arms after suffering multiple heart attacks, ultimately passing away the following day. The lawsuit alleges that the clinic's actions were negligent, wanton, reckless, and careless, directly leading to Keith's death.
Emotional and Physical Trauma for Widow
In the aftermath, Adrienne has endured significant personal, psychological, and emotional distress. The complaint details that she suffers from pain, disability, and loss of body function, necessitating ongoing medical costs. She is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages, which she believes a jury will deem fair and just.
Her daughter, Samantha Bodden, clarified via a GoFundMe page that Keith was authorized to be in the room, as an MRI technician had brought him in. Adrienne and the technician attempted to free Keith for several minutes before police were called. Authorities reported that Adrienne remained stuck to the machine for nearly an hour while they worked to release the chain.
Clinic's Alleged Failures Under Scrutiny
The lawsuit argues that the clinic created dangerous conditions by not enforcing safety protocols, such as informing patients and visitors about metal hazards. Adrienne's legal team claims this failure resulted in the preventable tragedy. In a statement to News 12 Long Island, Adrienne expressed her ongoing grief, saying she struggles with sleep and eating, unable to comprehend the loss.
The Nassau County Police Department confirmed that the incident was caused by the metallic chain, which led to a medical episode. This case highlights critical safety concerns in medical imaging facilities, echoing past incidents where similar accidents have occurred.
