Television presenter Laura Hamilton has opened up about her daily eating habits and the surprisingly modest cost of her weekly grocery shop. The 43-year-old A Place In The Sun host, who is mother to Rocco and Tahlia with her ex-partner Alex Goward, detailed how she maintains a nutritious diet while keeping expenses low.
Aldi Budget Shopping
In an interview with Closer magazine, Hamilton revealed she has become a dedicated Aldi shopper. 'I'm an Aldi convert now,' she stated. 'I try to budget around £75 a week for the three of us which is really achievable when shopping there.' This disciplined approach allows her to feed her family healthily without overspending.
Fridge Staples and Daily Meals
Hamilton described her refrigerator as being 'packed with lean proteins' including salmon, chicken, and turkey mince. She also ensures she has ample supplies of berries, sweetcorn, and watermelon readily available. Other regular items found in her kitchen include protein yoghurts, protein bars, and houmous.
Her typical daily meals follow a structured pattern:
- Breakfast: A protein shake blended with oats and matcha powder
- Lunch: Often a jacket potato topped with tuna, a small amount of mayonnaise, and cheese
- Dinner: Frequently salmon served with noodles and stir-fried vegetables
Despite maintaining a predominantly healthy diet, Hamilton emphasised she doesn't restrict herself excessively. 'I will eat almost anything,' she admitted, noting that her children have influenced her flexible approach to food.
Entertaining and Special Occasions
When asked what she would prepare to impress dinner guests, Hamilton selected a more indulgent option: slow-roast lamb accompanied by dauphinoise potatoes and broccoli. This demonstrates her balanced philosophy toward eating, combining everyday nutrition with occasional treats.
Responding to Ageist Criticism
The dietary revelations follow Hamilton's recent response to online trolls who claimed she was 'too old' to wear a bikini. Last year, she posted photographs wearing a striking black and white snake print swimming costume beside a pool, directly addressing the negative comments.
'Who decides when we're 'too old' for anything?' she questioned her followers. 'I recently read a comment saying I was too old to wear a bikini… and it honestly made me stop and think for a second.'
Hamilton quickly dismissed the criticism, asserting: 'But then I reminded myself, life's way too short to worry about what other people think.' In another image featuring her daughter Tahlia, she added: 'Today I'm wearing a swimsuit, not because of the comment I read but because I wanted to and I feel comfortable in it!'
She encouraged others to embrace body confidence regardless of age: 'We all have days when we feel self-conscious, but we deserve to enjoy the sunshine, the beach, the pool, whatever makes us happy, no matter our age and whether we choose to wear a swimsuit or a bikini!!'
Balancing Motherhood and Career
Hamilton, who shares custody of her children Rocco (11) and Tahlia (10) with ex-husband Alex Goward, has also addressed criticism about her work commitments. She recently explained that she has no regrets about spending time away from her children to film the popular Channel 4 property show.
Speaking to The Sun, she acknowledged the challenges: 'I have every respect for anyone who's a full-time mum, I just couldn't do that.' She continued: 'I love my career as well as being a mum and I've managed to find a way to make it work.'
Hamilton strategically plans her filming schedule around when her children are with their father, allowing her to concentrate fully on work during those periods. She expressed gratitude toward her employer for permitting her to travel with her children when possible, describing herself as 'incredibly lucky' to enjoy such professional flexibility.
This combination of budget-conscious shopping, nutritional awareness, body positivity, and career-family balance presents a multifaceted portrait of the television personality's approach to modern living.
