Spider-Man actor Tom Holland has publicly credited his fiancée, actress and model Zendaya, with helping him maintain a healthier lifestyle through her long-standing vegetarian diet.
How Zendaya's Lifestyle Influences Tom's Diet
The 29-year-old star explained in an interview with Men's Health that while he doesn't follow a restrictive diet, meeting Zendaya has made him more mindful of his food choices. "My girlfriend [now fiancée] is a vegetarian which is really helpful because it means that more often than not I'll be having a veggie meal," Holland said. He emphasised his focus on consuming plenty of vegetables, stating, "I'm always trying to have a healthy amount of vegetables and when I say healthy I just mean a lot."
Interestingly, Zendaya, who also turned 29 this year, adopted a vegetarian lifestyle at the age of 11 but has confessed she is not a natural vegetable enthusiast. "I'm a vegetarian who doesn't like vegetables too much - makes it challenging!" she told US Weekly.
A Day in the Life of Their Diets
Zendaya's daily eating habits are a mix of intention and practicality. She is not a breakfast person, but when she does indulge, her favourite is Nutella pancakes with berries. "I love breakfast food, just not at breakfast time," she shared with Harper's Bazaar.
For lunch, she enjoys a crispy brown rice salad featuring mushrooms and courgettes, dressed with lemon juice, olive oil, and vegetable broth. However, her busy schedule sometimes leads to less-than-ideal meals. "My go-to is a cup of noodles with hot sauce. I know it's bad for me," she admitted.
Dinner tends to be simple, with bowls of ramen, lentil chilli, or a favourite avocado pasta dish she learned to make. She avoids coffee and energy drinks, and even dislikes water, preferring fruit juices like Tropicana or lemonade.
Tom's Balance of Health and Indulgence
While embracing more plant-based meals, Tom Holland is open about his love for cheat meals, particularly a double-double burger with raw onions from In-N-Out. He jokes that he has them so frequently they "can't even be considered cheating."
To counterbalance this, he typically starts his day with a healthy breakfast of porridge topped with berries and nuts, accompanied by a protein shake. He often skips lunch and either dines at his chef brother's house or attempts to cook vegetarian recipes from a cookbook for Zendaya in the evening.
"I try to be strict and healthy, I travel a lot so I find it really difficult to get into a routine of cooking for myself," Holland explained. He clarified that his approach is not about dieting but about eating healthily to stay in shape. The actor also revealed a unique metabolic trait, saying, "I'm very lucky that my default setting of my body is that if I don't train and eat I lose weight. I have to really consciously think about maintaining size."
The couple, who first met on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017 and confirmed their relationship in 2021, have largely kept their private life out of the spotlight. Their shared approach to food, however, offers a rare glimpse into how they support each other's wellbeing behind the scenes.
