Primark Recalls Purse Over Chemical Risk to Health

Primark has issued an urgent product recall for a colour block purse, warning customers of a 'serious chemical risk' after tests revealed excessive concentrations of phthalates. The high street retailer advised anyone who purchased the item to stop using it immediately and return it to any store for a full refund.

Chemical Hazard Details

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) stated: 'The product presents a serious chemical risk as it contains excessive concentrations of Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), and Short Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (SCCPs).' Phthalates are known to be harmful to health and may cause damage to the reproductive system. The product fails to meet the requirements of the REACH Regulations 2008.

The affected purse is a coin purse in shades of brown, with model number 3103002 and barcode number 991169270. Primark urged customers to keep the item out of reach of children and to contact them via live chat for further information.

Other Recent Recalls

Primark is not alone in issuing recalls. Morrisons pulled its Maple & Bacon Back of the Net sharing snack (140g, best before August 22, 2026) due to undeclared milk, posing a risk to those with milk allergies. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) warned consumers not to eat the product and to return it for a full refund without a receipt.

Additionally, Ferrero's Frozen Nutella Croissants were recalled in UK Lidl stores and across several European countries—Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, Hungary, and Romania—over concerns of possible metal fragments. The four-packs with batch codes L126Z39 and L127Z39 and best before dates of May 6 and May 7, 2027, are affected.
