Anton Du Beke, the Strictly Come Dancing judge, has been widely praised after posting a video on social media showing himself heading to a doctor's appointment for a prostate cancer blood test. The former professional dancer, now a judge on the BBC One show, used the opportunity to encourage men to prioritise their health.
Anton's Public Health Message
In the video, Du Beke explained he was going for a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test, which measures the level of a protein produced by the prostate. “Hello, my loves. Now, I'm just going to tell you this because I just thought I'd let you know, I'm going to see the doctor today to have a blood test for the prostate test,” he said. “So all I'm saying really is, just letting you know this is for all the fellas out there. Go and get your test done! It's very, very important. And to all the ladies out there, if you have a husband or a father, an uncle or a brother, or any of the above, tell him to go get it checked. Get the blood test, easy as pie. I'm going in now. I'm here...”
The clip then cut to Du Beke leaving the appointment, saying: “That's it. Done! There you go, quick as a flash. Everything was fine, by the way, before. I'm not expecting any surprises. But listen, you go get yourself checked.”
Social Media Response
Captioning the post, the star wrote: “A little message for all the chaps out there! It only takes a few minutes, so do put your health first. Get yourself checked and take care of yourselves gents. #ProstateCancerUK Much love.” Fans quickly flooded the comments with praise. @anne.gleave said: “Well done Anton.” @rosiehansraj commented: “Well done you ! My husband two years post op Prostectomy and doing fabulously ! Don’t be frightened guys … Life’s too short as it is.” @nichola.carr wrote: “Thank you so much for doing this!” @sarahjohnson61 added: “Well done Anton. You are a star.”
Impact of Celebrity Diagnoses
Du Beke's video comes after Jeremy Clarkson's prostate cancer diagnosis prompted thousands of men to check their own risk. More than 50,000 people used charity Prostate Cancer UK’s online risk checker in the week since the former Top Gear host went public with his own diagnosis. This marked a 640% increase on the average week and was the highest weekly figure since February 2025, even higher than the week following former PM Lord Cameron’s diagnosis. Jeremy, 66, revealed he had been diagnosed with “aggressive” prostate cancer, which had been discovered early, in the most recent episodes of his reality show Clarkson’s Farm. In a subsequent interview with The Sunday Times, Clarkson confirmed a PSA test two months ago revealed no indication of cancer, and he is in remission.
