Disgraced Australian entertainer Rolf Harris passed away on May 10, 2023, at the age of 93. The official cause of death listed on his birth certificate was neck cancer and “frailty of old age,” according to records. His death was not publicly confirmed until almost two weeks later, on May 23, 2023.
Rolf Harris’ Criminal Convictions and Prison Sentence
Harris was convicted of 12 counts of indecent assault against four female victims aged between eight and 19. On July 4, 2014, he was sentenced to five years and nine months in prison. He served nearly three years at HM Prison Stafford before being released on licence in 2017. One conviction, involving an eight-year-old fan in Portsmouth, was overturned as unsafe, but his other 11 convictions were upheld despite appeals.
Life After Prison and Final Years
Following his release, Harris lived reclusively in Bray, Berkshire, with his wife Alwen Hughes, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. He rarely left his home or opened the curtains. In 2019, a headteacher ordered him off the grounds of a primary school after he was spotted waving at children. From October 2022, Harris was reportedly suffering from neck cancer, being fed through a tube and unable to speak.
