Health Risks

Listeria monocytogenes can cause mild flu-like symptoms or gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. According to the NHS, most people experience no symptoms or only mild signs like high temperature, aches, and chills. However, pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of severe illness.

Consumers are advised not to eat the affected products and to dispose of them. Point-of-sale notices are being displayed in stores. Anyone with severe symptoms, including severe headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to light, seizures, confusion, or a rash that does not fade under a glass, should seek emergency medical help.
