Love Island's Wes Nelson faces surgery after snapping Achilles tendon
Wes Nelson needs surgery after horror football injury

Former Love Island contestant Wes Nelson is preparing for surgery after suffering a painful injury while playing football over the Christmas period.

Festive Football Game Ends in Agony

The 27-year-old reality star, who found fame on the ITV2 show's fourth series in 2018, revealed he snapped his Achilles tendon during a casual game. Nelson took to social media to share the news with his followers, posting an image of his heavily bandaged foot.

He wrote at the time: “Decided to play football for the first time in years… Snapped my Achilles.” In a later humorous post, he quipped about retiring from the sport, stating: “Nah, the game’s absolutely gone... 27 years old. I’m calling it a day. Golf and golf alone.”

Hospital Update Confirms Need for Operation

The situation has now developed, with the injury proving more serious than initially thought. On Wednesday, Nelson posted an update from a hospital stretcher via his Instagram Stories.

The new images showed the TV and music star with a plaster cast extending from his ankle to just below his knee. Over the picture, he wrote a caption stating: "Update. Looks like I'm getting an operation on New Year's Eve to reattach my Achilles." He accompanied the message with praying hands and a red heart emoji.

In a second post, showing his elevated leg, he reflected on a childhood wish, writing: "On another note, when I was younger, I wanted a cast so bad?! I can't be the only one."

A Challenging Year for the Star

This injury caps off a difficult 12 months for Nelson, who has been targeted by thieves on two separate occasions.

In October, he reported that his full set of golf clubs and bag had been stolen, expressing his frustration online: "I actually hate what London has become. Twice in a year. Cheers."

This incident followed a theft earlier in the year, where a designer Louis Vuitton bag worth over £8,000 was stolen from a train heading to Milton Keynes. Nelson detailed how the thief, sitting behind him, slowly slid the bag from the overhead storage and fled at a stop. He considered himself fortunate to have removed his MacBook, which contained his music, prior to the journey.

Wes Nelson rose to prominence on Love Island in 2018, where he coupled up with Megan Barton-Hanson and finished in fourth place. Since leaving the villa, he has pursued a music career, with his single "11:11" gaining traction online.
