Many of us love a matcha latte these days. The drink became a mainstream phenomenon in the UK during the 2020s, driven heavily by a massive boom in sales, social media trends, and aesthetic wellness culture between 2023 and 2025. However, matcha's journey onto the British high street is only very recent.
Both Starbucks and Costa Coffee only introduced their first matcha-style drinks in the UK back in January this year. Those who have tried them from the coffee chains will also note that the drinks are rather expensive. Standard matcha drinks at both Starbucks and Costa generally cost between £4.70 and £5.90 for a medium size, which can definitely add up if you have a daily habit.
That is why Assistant Editor Samantha Bartlett jumped at the chance when she got to try out Bird & Blend's Matcha Latte Magic Whisk. According to the Bird & Blend website, it is the first machine designed for perfect hot or iced matcha lattes at home and uses an all-in-one tool that eliminates lumps and froth fails and delivers silky smooth lattes with the press of a button.
Testing the Flavours
Being a lover of matcha, Samantha was intrigued to see how they would taste at home. She tried out Bird & Blend's Magical Matcha Selection Box (£36), as she wanted to test out many of its different flavours. They have some really tasty flavours, such as Raspberry Ripple, Buttermint and Ice Cream, however she had to choose her favourite flavour first of all – Salted Caramel.
How to Make the Perfect Matcha Latte
Making the matcha with the whisk is really simple. If you want to make a hot matcha latte, you just pour milk in up to the 250ml line, press the button and add your matcha powder before putting on the lid. You then pour it into a mug or glass when done, add a tiny bit more milk, and voila – it is done! Those who want an iced latte just add 125ml of milk instead, complete the same process, then pour on more cold milk when it is done and add ice.
Samantha has now tried it both ways – hot and cold – and she says that both are delicious. She had never actually had a hot latte before but she is a convert now after only ever having iced matcha before. The flavours are also amazing and taste just as good as what you would get at a cafe.
Value for Money
The whisk makes the drink silky smooth, just as was promised – making it feel like a real treat rather than just a standard drink. Bird & Blend's Matcha Latte Magic Whisk is £99, however, if you are buying matcha lattes from cafes most days, you would spend that in under three weeks, whereas this will last you forever. Samantha admits that the Matcha Latte Magic Whisk has certainly brightened her day since she received it and she is now excited about which matcha flavour to try out in the morning.
It has also brightened her kitchen up too – with it coming in a gorgeous soft lilac shade (you can get a yellow or stainless steel version too). If you do not want to spend out on the machine, you can get cheaper whisks such as the Jenki Bamboo Whisk or the T2 Premium Matcha Whisk, however with those being £16 and £23 respectively, it is not much more of an investment to get the whole machine which does it for you. All in all, the Matcha Latte Magic Whisk really has added to her life (and her wallet) when it comes to her matcha obsession.
