Coronation Street's Georgia May Foote shares vitiligo update: 'Winter is easier'
Georgia May Foote shares health update on vitiligo journey

Former Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote has offered a candid update on her health, sharing the ongoing challenges of living with the autoimmune skin condition vitiligo. The 34-year-old actress revealed her journey has "up and down days," but finds the winter season easier to manage.

Living with a Visible Condition

During a recent social media Q&A with fans, the TV personality was asked about coming to terms with vitiligo, which causes lighter patches on the skin due to a lack of melanin. Foote responded honestly about its progression. "It’s crazy. It’s really spreading at the moment, but the winter is always easier, because my tan is not there to make it as visible," she explained.

She added, "I have up and down days with it." A recent mirror selfie shared by the actress highlighted the vitiligo patches on her elbow, a visible sign of the condition which has now spread to multiple areas of her body.

A Diagnosis and a Mission to Raise Awareness

Georgia May Foote was first diagnosed with vitiligo by medical professionals two years ago, though she has stated the condition actually began developing in 2020. She has been consistently updating her followers on her experience ever since, desperate to raise public awareness.

Appearing on Channel 5 News, she detailed the condition's evolution. "It started with a couple of little spots here and there, and then over the past five years it’s progressed. Now it’s all over my hands, I’ve got it all down my arms, elbows," Foote said.

"And it’s now gone on my face as well, which has obviously been quite a big change," she continued. "It was a bit of a strange thing to develop at the age I did, but I also feel lucky. If I can be the person who can help other people by raising some awareness for it, then I will do."

Personal Challenges Beyond Health

The actress's health update comes after a period of significant personal difficulty. Last year, Foote shared the devastating news that her beauty salon had burnt down. Having trained as a nail technician to supplement her acting income, the fire represented a major financial blow.

Further heartbreak followed in July of the same year, when it was reported she had split from her husband, Kris, after just two years of marriage. A source told The Sun at the time, "Georgia’s marriage to Kris seems to be over. It’s on the rocks. She’s looking to the future and is surrounded by friends and her family."

Foote, who shot to fame playing Katie Armstrong in Coronation Street between 2010 and 2015, had previously described Kris as her "best friend" in the lead-up to their wedding. She has since removed her wedding ring and deleted photos of their relationship from social media.

The actress was also previously in a relationship with her Strictly Come Dancing professional partner Giovanni Pernice in 2015, though the romance lasted only a year.
