A 46-year-old man has revealed that he has eaten the same breakfast and lunch every day for the past 22 years to maintain his fitness and avoid decision fatigue. Luke Carlson, CEO of fitness company Discover Strength, starts each day with porridge, banana, protein powder and creatine, followed by a protein bar. For lunch, he has a turkey or chicken sandwich, alternating between sliced bread and wraps.
Carlson consumes between 1,900 and 2,200 calories daily, which helps him stay within his recommended intake. He says the routine removes one variable from his busy schedule and enables him to hit his fitness goals. “I dial in on the macro-nutrients that I need while staying in an appropriate calorie range,” he explained.
Dinner offers more flexibility, usually chicken, steak or salmon. Carlson, who is single and without children, says his lifestyle has been accepted by those around him. “They all understand my nutrition habits and have been flexible to work around them. They might joke or give me a hard time, but they know I need a sandwich for lunch – always,” he said.
Carlson’s approach mirrors that of high-profile figures like Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs, who simplified daily choices to reduce decision fatigue. He also wears the same outfit when flying: Lululemon trousers, a Lululemon top and white Cole Haan shoes. “I travel extensively and I know exactly what my routine will be, overall helping me as a CEO,” he added.
