Miriam Margolyes Reveals 40-Year Shoulder Injury Makes Bra Difficult

Actress Miriam Margolyes has revealed she has been living with a chronic shoulder injury for over 40 years, which makes putting on a bra a challenge without assistance. The 84-year-old, best known for her role in Harry Potter, shared the details on The Romesh Ranganathan Show.

Margolyes explained that the injury stems from a play she performed in six months about four decades ago, where she had to fall repeatedly. 'The rotator cuff doesn't quite cuff or rotate,' she said, adding that she cannot put her hands behind her back. She relies on her lodgers for 'bra duty' but had to manage alone recently.

During the same interview, the actress candidly discussed the downsides of ageing, describing a weak pelvic floor as 'the worst bit about being 80.' She admitted to carrying spare underwear at all times and urged listeners to do pelvic floor exercises. However, she noted that the 'best thing' about her age is the confidence she feels when meeting new people.

Margolyes has faced other health issues, including an aortic valve replacement in 2023 and spinal stenosis, which affects her mobility. She uses a walker and a mobility scooter, calling the latter 'a lot of fun.'
