Identical Twins Become Fathers on Same Day Despite Living 10,000 Miles Apart

Identical twins Stefan and Gareth Kershaw have defied odds of 150,000 to one by both becoming fathers on the same day, despite living 10,000 miles apart. Gareth, based in Australia, and Stefan, in Bollington, Cheshire, welcomed their children within hours of each other on 13 October.

Gareth's wife Kate gave birth to son Harvey just after midnight, while Stefan's wife Katie delivered daughter Imogen at 11.15pm the same day. The coincidence is even more remarkable as the couples had due dates three days apart, with Gareth's set for 7 October and Stefan's for 10 October.

Stefan, a coffee machine trainer, said: 'When we knew that both our wives had given birth on the same day, we couldn't believe it. All the family were flabbergasted.' The twins, who keep in touch daily via Skype, discovered their wives were pregnant within a day of each other in February last year.

The brothers, who used their identical looks to play pranks growing up, are now planning a reunion in May to introduce their children to each other. Stefan added: 'When Harvey and Imogen are old enough we will tell them about their extraordinary arrival.'
