Harry and Meghan to Produce Netflix War Film

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly working on a new war film for Netflix, based on the true story of British soldiers fighting in Afghanistan's Helmand province. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will collaborate with scripted content head Tracy Ryerson to adapt the book No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege into a feature film through their production company, Archewell Productions.

Film Adaptation Details

According to reports, the screenplay is being penned by Matt Charman, known for writing Bridge of Spies. The film will chronicle the experiences of Easy Company, composed of Paras and the Royal Irish Rangers, who were tasked with defending a district in Helmand province in July 2006 during the Afghanistan conflict. The book's description highlights the harrowing conditions faced by Major Adam Jowett and his men, who were cut off and heavily outnumbered by Taliban forces in the town of Musa Qala.

Personal Connection for Prince Harry

This project holds particular significance for Prince Harry, who served in the British Army for a decade and completed two tours in Afghanistan, including a 10-week deployment in Helmand province. His military service ended in 2015. The Sussexes' agreement with Netflix was revised to a first-look arrangement last year, and they have several other projects in development, including adaptations of Tracey Oliver's The Wedding Date and Carley Fortune's Meet Me At The Lake. Additionally, they are executive-producing a polo-themed drama series set in Wellington, Florida, written by Francisca X of Teacup fame.
