President Donald Trump has revealed that his forthcoming White House ballroom will be equipped with a state-of-the-art drone port and advanced military technology. During a tour of the construction site on Tuesday, Trump showcased the project, which is expected to be completed in late 2028.
Ballroom Features Military-Grade Defenses
Standing near the excavation pit where the East Wing once stood, Trump explained that the ballroom's flat roof will be designed to support military personnel and equipment. "The entire roof is developed for the military," he said. "They have a 360-degree vision of Washington DC."
The President emphasized that the roof will host a "drone port" capable of deploying autonomous weaponry to protect the capital. "On top of the roof, we will have the greatest drone empire that you've ever seen, and it's going to protect Washington," Trump declared. He also noted that the structure would be missile and bulletproof.
Drone Manufacturing On-Site
Trump hinted at the possibility of drone manufacturing within the ballroom itself. Pointing to the construction site, he said, "Also for the drone building capacity, some of that takes place right down here. You can see the very large piping and the other things—it's a very complex building. It's all knit together."
The President has repeatedly touted the ballroom as a necessary secure venue for official events, especially after an assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in April. He has complained that traditional outdoor ceremonies are vulnerable to weather and security risks.
Project Faces Legal Challenges
Critics, including the National Trust for Historic Preservation, have filed legal challenges against the project, arguing that it violates federal law by bypassing required reviews and congressional approval. Trump has stated that he will personally fund the $400 million construction, calling it a "gift" to future administrations.
Once completed, the 90,000-square-foot ballroom is expected to host up to 1,000 guests. Trump noted that he will only use it for a few months before the next administration takes over.
