Accused war criminal Ben Roberts-Smith made an appearance at an Anzac Day dawn service in Queensland on Saturday morning. Australia's most decorated soldier was seen at the ceremony on Currumbin Beach, Gold Coast, with his service medals pinned to his suit jacket.

'I've never thought about not coming, I was always going to be here,' he told the ABC. Photographs show a beaming Roberts-Smith chatting with veterans, shaking hands with a young naval officer, and smiling for selfies with supporters who also attended the dawn service.

The former SAS soldier attended the event with his partner, Sarah Matulin, and his parents. Ms Matulin appeared moved by the ceremony and was seen blowing her nose as thousands gathered to pay their respects to those who served.
