Hojlund Embraces New Dreams After Permanent Napoli Switch

Rasmus Hojlund has expressed his readiness to pursue new dreams following the completion of his permanent move from Manchester United to Napoli, triggered by the Serie A side's qualification for the Champions League. The 23-year-old Denmark international joined Napoli on loan earlier this season, with an obligation to buy if Champions League football was secured. That condition was met on Sunday after Antonio Conte's team secured a 3-0 victory over Pisa, with Hojlund himself scoring in the match.

Emotional Farewell to Manchester United

Hojlund, who joined Manchester United from Atalanta in 2022 for a fee of £64 million plus potential add-ons, described the transition as bittersweet. In a social media post, he reflected on his time at Old Trafford, where he fulfilled his childhood dream of playing for the club he supported. "This goal felt symbolic because it means two things. We now secured Champions League with Napoli, which means because of my contract I’m now officially a Napoli player and I’m saying goodbye to Manchester United," he wrote.

He added: "That feels weird, because for the past year I already feel like a Napoli player. The way you fans supported me, made me feel like home and let me find my confidence again is something I’m so grateful for. To say goodbye to Manchester United is something that kinda feels emotional too. My childhood dream came true by playing at Old Trafford in a red jersey."

New Beginnings in Naples

Despite scoring only 14 goals in 62 Premier League appearances for United, Hojlund found his form in Italy, contributing significantly to Napoli's campaign. The permanent transfer, valued at 44 million euros (£38 million), marks a fresh start for the striker. "So the goal today symbolises a new confident start, in which I will give everything for the time ahead to Napoli, and a thank you to all the fans, players and staff of Manchester United who made the dream I had as a kid come true. It’s time for new dreams, so let’s chase them," he concluded.

Departures at Old Trafford

Hojlund's exit coincides with the departures of Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia, whose contracts are set to expire this summer, signalling a period of transition for Manchester United as they reshape their squad.
