Euphoria Season 3 Trailer Unveils Eric Dane's Final Acting Performance
On Monday, HBO Max premiered the second trailer for the highly anticipated third season of Euphoria, set to debut on April 12. The eight-episode season features the concluding performance of the late Eric Dane as Cal Jacobs, marking his final acting role before his passing.
A Five-Year Leap and Unexpected Reunions
The preview introduces a significant five-year time jump, with Cal Jacobs, formerly a real estate agent turned convict, appearing in a dapper suit. In a surprising turn, he reunites with transgender sex worker Jules Vaughn, portrayed by Hunter Schafer. Jules inquires, 'Remember me?' to which Cal warmly responds, 'How could I forget?'
This interaction harks back to the series' inception, where Cal's closeted character infamously engaged with the then-teenager Jules at a motel in the very first episode. The video of their encounter served as blackmail material throughout the initial two seasons, driving much of the plot's tension.
Lavish Wedding and Ominous Threats
Cal and Jules' reconnection seems to occur during the extravagant wedding of his son, Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi, to his high school sweetheart Cassie Howard, portrayed by Sydney Sweeney. The celebration, however, is marred by an intimidating man who threatens the newlyweds, declaring, 'I used to be your husband's friend. I'm gonna make him his worst f***ing nightmare.'
Nate is later shown screaming, 'I'm trying to do a good thing!' after being assaulted during a home invasion. It was Nate who initially reported Cal to the police, leading to his arrest in the season two finale. Given that the average sentence for felony child pornography in California is three years in state prison, Cal's release by season three appears plausible.
Zendaya's Emmy-Winning Role Takes Center Stage
The trailer prominently features Zendaya's Emmy-winning portrayal of Rue Bennett, a regretful drug addict pursued by dangerous dealers and assassins. In a poignant voiceover, Rue reflects, 'In the beginning, we had to make a choice about who we were and what we wanted. But what we didn't realize was how far we were willing to go. After all these years, have we finally gone too far? I've done a lot of evil, and I never really thought about it. In the end, no matter who you are or what you want, we all answer to God.'
New Additions to the Cast and Behind-the-Scenes Details
Sam Levinson's drug-fueled drama welcomes newcomers Sharon Stone, Rosalía, Marshawn Lynch, and Kadeem Hardison for the new season. Eric Dane, who passed away at age 53 on February 19 from respiratory failure with ALS, had already lost function in his dominant right arm when filming his Euphoria scenes on April 14, 2025.
Last June, the Actor Award winner told E! News, 'I've shot already. It's good. I'm going to ride this till the wheels fall off. It keeps me sharp. It keeps me moving forward, which is super important right now.' In 2022, Dane hinted at redemption for his character, predicting, 'There's gonna be redemption. I mean, that's the trajectory he's on...I would think moving forward, there would be some healing between [Cal and Nate].'
Legacy and Posthumous Projects
Dane's autobiography, My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments, is scheduled for release on November 3. He was actively working on the manuscript until his passing. The memoir, available for $32 in presale, is described as being told through a series of 'days' that illuminate defining experiences and emotional truths, including 'future days' envisioned after his death.
Proceeds are expected to benefit his two daughters, Billie, 16, and Georgia, 14, from his 14-year marriage to Rebecca Gayheart. Their marriage ended in 2018, but she called off their legal separation in 2025. A GoFundMe page established by family friends to provide stability for his children has raised $490,010 out of a $500,000 goal as of Monday, with Gayheart listed as the beneficiary.
On average, ALS patients live two to five years after initial symptoms, though FDA-approved medications and therapies may slow progression. Dane rose to fame as plastic surgeon Mark 'McSteamy' Sloan on ABC's Grey's Anatomy from 2006 to 2012, cementing his place in television history.
