Iran has issued a stark warning to Britain, urging it not to escalate the crisis in the Middle East by deploying warships to the Strait of Hormuz. The warning came from Iran's deputy foreign minister, who stated that the presence of French and British warships in the key shipping route would be met with a decisive and immediate response.
UK Deployment and Tensions
The UK Ministry of Defence announced that the Royal Navy's HMS Dragon warship is being sent to the Middle East for a potential international mission to safeguard shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. This move has heightened tensions in the region, already strained by ongoing conflicts and diplomatic disputes.
Iran's Response to Trump's Peace Plan
Iran also responded to a peace proposal put forward by former US President Donald Trump, which focused on ending regional fighting, ensuring maritime safety, and demanding compensation and Iranian sovereignty over the Strait. Trump rejected Iran's response as 'totally unacceptable,' further escalating the rhetoric.
Iran further threatened to tighten its control over the Strait of Hormuz and warned of a heavy assault on US assets if vessels are attacked. The Strait is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, and any disruption could have severe economic consequences.
The situation remains volatile, with both sides exchanging threats. The UK has not yet confirmed the exact scope of its mission, but the deployment of HMS Dragon signals a firm stance on protecting maritime security in the region.
