London's Lido Festival Forced to Cancel Major Events Over Ground Conditions
The organisers of London's Lido Festival have announced significant changes to this year's event schedule, with two of the three planned days now cancelled entirely. The festival, which was scheduled to return to Victoria Park in east London this June, has been moved to late August due to concerns about ground conditions at the park.
Schedule Changes and Artist Disappointment
According to a notice on the festival's official website, only one of the three events will now proceed. The Maribou State performance with full support bill has been rescheduled for Monday 31 August, while the other two dates have been cancelled completely. Ticket-holders for the cancelled events are being offered full refunds.
The Friday 12 June event featuring Irish singer-songwriter CMAT, Father John Misty, and Sharon Van Etten has been called off. CMAT expressed her devastation in an Instagram post, stating: "I am truly devastated not to be able to play the festival. I realise this will cause issues for some of you who have bought tickets and may be travelling and for that I can only say sorry."
Similarly, the Sunday 14 June headline performance by Bombay Bicycle Club and Metronomy has also been cancelled. Bombay Bicycle Club responded on Instagram, writing: "This one is very much out of our hands but that doesn't change how horribly we feel about the impact on fans who have bought tickets."
Ground Conditions and Weather Impact
The festival organisers explained that the decision was made "to protect park ground conditions" following advice from their advisors. They noted that last summer's drought had created dust issues at the park, which underwent an extensive reseeding and improvement programme by AEG that has been largely successful.
However, following one of the wettest winters in recent history, advisors recommended giving the newly improved areas additional time before beginning the festival programme. This delay aims to ensure the progress made in park improvement is protected and continues to benefit the community throughout spring and early summer.
Organiser Statements and Context
Lido Festival emphasised that the changes were "in no way the fault of the artists or London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH)," both of whom have been fully supportive of the decision. The park remains in good condition for everyday community use and is fully open to local residents and visitors.
This marks the second year for Lido Festival at Victoria Park, which debuted last year just two months before the larger All Points East Festival. Last year's event faced challenges when drought conditions led to dust warnings, with festivalgoers reporting being covered in dirt and needing to use facemasks.
The cancellation comes shortly after Wireless Festival organisers pulled all three of their summer 2026 dates from the schedule, though for different reasons related to headliner Kanye West being blocked from entering the UK. The Lido Festival situation highlights the ongoing challenges outdoor event organisers face with weather conditions and venue maintenance.
