Footballing icon Harry Redknapp has openly admitted he holds little confidence in securing victory once more as he prepares for his highly anticipated return to the jungle in I'm A Celeb All Stars. The former manager, now 79, who triumphed as King of the Jungle in 2018, enters the ITV show's special Legends edition as a late addition, yet remains remarkably humble about his prospects.
Redknapp's Modest Outlook on All Stars Competition
Despite his past success, Redknapp insists he is not harbouring grand hopes of being crowned a Legend for a second time. In a candid interview, he revealed, "I am not holding out great hopes of being crowned the second 'Legend'! I didn't go into the jungle the first time expecting to win. I really thought I would be the first one voted out." He attributes his initial victory to a lack of preparation and simply being himself, a strategy he plans to replicate. "I just bumbled my way through it all and hopefully I can do the same again and have a great time," he added, emphasising his desire to enjoy the experience without pressure.
Reflections on 2018 Victory and Life Changes
Redknapp fondly recalls his 2018 win, which he described as "so surreal" at the time, noting how it delighted his grandchildren. The experience, he says, did not alter his personality but significantly transformed his life. "It definitely opened up new doors," he explained. "I'd always had men coming up to me wanting to talk about my football career. Suddenly I had women and children who wanted to chat, and it was lovely to have a new audience." This led to unexpected opportunities in theatre and advertising, making him busier than ever.
Support from Family and Excitement for New Format
His wife, Sandra, while supportive, humorously thinks he's "mad" for returning, though she left the decision entirely up to him. Redknapp will miss her during filming but looks forward to reuniting with hosts Ant and Dec, whom he praises as "fantastic." The All Stars version, set in the South African jungle, introduces a new format where Redknapp, as King Harry, teams up with King Jimmy Bullard to lead the Lions and Rhinos in head-to-head trials. He expressed curiosity about how this will unfold, stating, "I'm excited now to go into the camp again and enjoy the experience."
Legacy and Viewership Impact
Redknapp's 2018 victory captivated nearly 11 million viewers, making him the show's oldest winner at 71. His down-to-earth approach and relatable charm resonated widely, broadening his fanbase beyond football enthusiasts. As he steps back into the spotlight, his focus remains on authenticity and fun, rather than competition. With the All Stars series promising fresh challenges and camaraderie, Redknapp's return is set to be a highlight for fans of the long-running reality show.
