Strictly Come Dancing bosses are reportedly considering This Morning presenter Sian Welby as a potential host, aiming to attract a younger demographic. The 39-year-old radio host, who also stands in on ITV's This Morning, is said to be a strong candidate following the departure of long-standing presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
Daly and Winkleman announced their exit in October after more than 20 years on the BBC show. Since then, several names have been linked to the roles, including Rylan Clark, Fleur East, and Mel Giedroyc. However, sources suggest Sian's appeal to younger viewers, thanks to her work on Capital FM, makes her a standout choice.
A source told The Sun: 'Sian might be less well-known than other names linked with Tess and Claudia’s jobs so far. But she’s got everything it takes with one special ingredient — a younger audience, thanks to her job on trendy Capital FM. And working on This Morning ticks all the TV boxes. Execs have looked at her as someone who would be a good fit for the job!'
The news comes amid reports that Zoe Ball and Emma Willis are also in contention. A source indicated that only one of them would be hired, as bosses want a 'more left-field' personality for the other role, possibly a female stand-up comedian. The comedic element Claudia brought to the show is expected to continue.
Other names rumoured for the positions include Chris and Rosie Ramsay, Holly Willoughby, Amanda Holden, and Angela Scanlon. The new hosts will take over after Daly and Winkleman's 21-year tenure, which they described as 'wonderfully joyful' in their farewell announcement.
