Multi-millionaire and former reality TV star Georgia Toffolo sparked outrage on TikTok after posting a video about a £28 H&M top, with fans accusing her of being tone-deaf. The 31-year-old, known as Toff from Made in Chelsea, shared a clip on Friday praising high street fashion while joking that her purchase didn't 'break the bank'.
Video Backlash Over 'Breaking the Bank' Comment
In the video, Georgia twirled in a pink strapless top from H&M, originally £33 but on sale for £28. She told followers: 'The high street is just amazing. I could cry, it's gonna have to go back cos it's too big for me, really gappy.' After realizing the top ties at the back, she said: 'Oh no, I can salvage it.' She added: 'Don't you think this looks so expensive. Like I've kitted myself out for my next holiday.' At the end of the clip, she remarked that it hadn't 'broken my bank, I can tell you' and called the purchase 'really special'.
However, the reception was far from positive. One commenter called it 'one of the most embarrassing videos I've seen in a while', while another asked: 'Anyone else find this tone deaf?' A third user noted: 'High Street purchases aren't a choice for most of us though.'
Georgia's History of Bargain Hunting
Despite her wealth, Georgia has often spoken about her love of bargains. Earlier this month, she shared tips on finding deals on Vinted, calling herself a 'bargain hunter'. She said: 'I have a gift and I didn't know God gave me this gift. I am the bargain hunter.' She added: 'I think there are real sharks on there. Me being one of them. There are tips and tricks that I am going to tell you, to find all the good stuff. It's unfair that I am getting all the good stuff.' She also admitted to lowballing sellers: 'I have a tendency to lowball people on Vinted. It's like my dirty secret.'
Public Reaction and Ongoing Criticism
The backlash highlights the disconnect between celebrities and everyday consumers struggling with the cost of living. Georgia's comments, intended as lighthearted, were seen by many as out of touch given her estimated multi-million pound fortune. The video has since drawn thousands of comments, with many criticizing her for not recognizing the financial pressures faced by her followers.
