Independent Victorian senator Lidia Thorpe has called on the federal government to condemn Israel for intercepting and detaining activists attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Six Australians were part of the flotilla attempting to transport aid to Gaza when it was intercepted by Israel Defense Forces last week. They were detained but have since been released.
In a statement, Thorpe said the Albanese government should condemn the use of force and review Australia's relationship with Israel.
"No one delivering humanitarian aid should face violence or intimidation. These individuals acted out of humanity and solidarity with the people of Gaza. This is part of a broader pattern of Israel acting with impunity, while its allies, including the Albanese Government, turn a blind eye," Thorpe said.
Boats belonging to the global Sumud flotilla left the marina in Augusta, Sicily last week.
