President Donald Trump has announced he is heading to the Situation Room to make a final determination on a deal to end the war with Iran. In a post on Truth Social, Trump laid out his red lines for the agreement.
Trump's Demands
Trump wrote that Iran must agree never to possess a nuclear weapon or bomb. He demanded the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz for unrestricted shipping traffic in both directions, without tolls. He also insisted on the removal or detonation of all water mines in the strait, noting that many have already been cleared by US underwater minesweepers.
Trump stated that ships caught in the strait due to the US naval blockade, which will now be lifted, may begin the process of heading home. He also addressed the issue of enriched nuclear material buried deep underground, which he referred to as 'Nuclear Dust.' He said the United States, in coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, would unearth and destroy this material.
Trump concluded that no money will be exchanged until further notice, and other less important items have been agreed upon. He said he would meet in the Situation Room to make a final determination.
Iranian Response
Earlier on Friday, Iran's top negotiator made a provocative statement, claiming that Tehran takes concessions from the US 'not through talks, but with missiles.' This sabre-rattling came despite reports that negotiators had reached a tentative agreement to extend the ceasefire and begin talks on the nuclear issue.
The world now awaits Trump's final decision, which could have significant implications for peace in the region and global security.
