Donald Trump has met with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his state visit, and the pair are 'not all smiles' after he was left 'humiliated' on arrival in Beijing, according to reports. The US President is in the city for a highly anticipated three-day visit, with talks being held that could shape global relations.
Body Language Analysis
The gravity of this trip has been displayed from the outset, with the pair's initial encounter showing that Trump is not 'taking the trip lightly', according to body language expert Dr Lillian Glass. She claimed that the leader's handshake suggested this is one of Trump's 'most serious trips', holding huge importance for the US, China, and the rest of the world.
Dr Glass told the Mirror: 'When Trump was standing near Xi, and they were shaking hands, he leaned in towards Xi, showing warmth and closeness towards Xi. This was also another emotional moment for Trump as you can see by his facial expression where his eyes are squinted and his lips are pursed. This is not something we see expressed in Trump very often. It indicates that this is one of the most serious trips he is having, and he is not taking it lightly.'
Both leaders faced the camera as they shook each other's hands for a prolonged period. Dr Glass added that Trump's lack of smiles shows the importance of this engagement. 'There is a strong handshake in the next photo, where Xi is looking directly at Trump, which is a good sign. Xi appears relaxed, and Trump once again shows the seriousness of this meeting as he is not all smiles.'
The Welcome Ceremony
Trump headed to the Great Hall of the People this morning, where a mix of US and Chinese flags were held by soldiers separating the area from the rest of the square. Children dressed in brightly coloured clothes lined up in front of the building, holding flowers and small American and Chinese flags. The three-day summit marks the seventh time in nine years that the two leaders have spoken face to face and is the first time the US president has visited China since 2017.
