The alleged remarks were made during wide-ranging talks between US and Chinese delegations in Beijing, held ahead of Putin's upcoming visit to China.
China denies claims
China's foreign ministry spokesman, Guo Jiakun, strongly denied the claims, stating that the information was 'completely fabricated out of thin air'. The denial came amid heightened diplomatic activity between the world's major powers.
Putin's Beijing visit
Putin's two-day visit to Beijing is aimed at strengthening the already close relationship between Russia and China. Discussions are expected to focus on the proposed Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline, a key energy project that would further cement bilateral ties.
Reports also suggested that Donald Trump proposed the idea of Russia, China, and the United States forming an alliance against the International Criminal Court. However, no official confirmation of such a proposal has been made.
