Pauline Hanson Celebrates Gina Rinehart's Backing of One Nation
Hanson Gloats Over Rinehart's One Nation Support

After initially downplaying the extent of Gina Rinehart's support, Pauline Hanson is now openly celebrating the backing of Australia's richest person for her One Nation party. The relationship has blossomed over the past year, with Rinehart providing luxury flights, branded attire, and substantial donations.

Luxury Flights and Gifts

The Guardian has revealed that Hanson received multiple undeclared flights from Rinehart, including trips on her Gulfstream G700 private jet. These flights, worth thousands of dollars, were not properly declared in breach of Senate rules. The gifts also include a new Cirrus SR22 G7 plane, worth up to $2 million, which Hanson proudly unveiled in a social media post.

Political Alliance Strengthened

Hanson and Rinehart have been friends for some time, but their alliance solidified during a trip to the United States, where they attended the Conservative Political Action Conference and visited Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort. Rinehart has since hosted fundraisers for One Nation, including an event on the luxury cruise ship The World.

Barnaby Joyce, a former Nationals MP and close ally of Rinehart, defected to One Nation in December, further strengthening the party's ties to the billionaire.

Donations and Influence

Rinehart has directed significant donations to One Nation, including $300,000 from fund managers in exchange for dinner with Donald Trump. The party has also received a new car and other gifts from Rinehart's associates. Critics argue that this level of financial support amounts to a purchase of the party, raising concerns about political influence.

Response from Critics

Treasurer Jim Chalmers described Hanson as a "wholly owned subsidiary of Gina Rinehart," warning of Rinehart's agenda, including opposition to the minimum wage. The Centre for Public Integrity's chair, Anthony Whealy, said the revelations expose the "state of absolute chaos" of Australia's electoral laws, allowing wealthy individuals to dominate political parties.

Despite the criticism, Hanson remains unapologetic, stating that the new plane will allow her to visit more regional towns. The party's expansion continues, with Rinehart's support providing the resources needed to challenge Labor and the Coalition.
