Postcode Lottery Launches £5 Million Dream Fund for Charitable Ambitions
Postcode Lottery Opens £5 Million Dream Fund for Charities

The Postcode Lottery has officially launched its 2026 Dream Fund, a substantial £5 million initiative designed to empower charities to pursue their most ambitious and long-held project aspirations. This significant financial injection aims to support organisations in bringing to life innovative ideas they have "long dreamed of delivering but never had the opportunity to bring to life." The fund is now open for applications, inviting proposals that demonstrate clear innovation, substantial ambition, and the potential for lasting impact across communities throughout Britain.

Previous Dream Fund Success Stories

The Dream Fund has a proven track record of catalysing transformative projects. In 2023, the Alzheimer's Society received £5 million in backing to develop a simple blood test for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease. This groundbreaking research initiative aims to integrate the test into NHS settings, enabling earlier detection of the condition. Early diagnosis is critical, as it provides individuals with a better chance of accessing timely support and emerging treatments. This effort is particularly vital given that one in three people born today are expected to receive a dementia diagnosis in their lifetime.

Wildlife Reintroduction Achievements

Another notable success came in 2020, when the Dream Fund allocated over £1.1 million to reintroduce wild European bison to the United Kingdom. This project marked the return of bison to British landscapes for the first time in 6,000 years. Today, these majestic animals freely roam the West Blean and Thornden Woods in Kent, where they play a crucial role in restoring natural woodland ecosystems. Their presence helps combat biodiversity loss, a pressing issue as 56 per cent of species in the UK are in decline, with 165 critically endangered and some nearly extinct.

Launch Event and Vision for the Future

The 2026 Dream Fund was formally launched on Wednesday at the Eden Project in Cornwall. Clara Govier, Managing Director at the Postcode Lottery, emphasised the fund's purpose: "Thanks to Postcode Lottery players, the £5 million Dream Fund backs ambitious ideas that charities have long dreamed of delivering. At a time when the sector is under real pressure, we want organisations to come together, think bigger and develop solutions that could transform communities across Britain."

Endorsement from Past Recipients

Dame Ellen MacArthur, Founder of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, which has been a recipient of the Dream Fund three times, highlighted its transformative impact: "Winning the Postcode Lottery Dream Fund has catalysed some of our most important work over the last 15 years. Whether it was partnering with the world's largest businesses to design out plastic pollution, redesigning denim jeans, or innovating towards a food system that works with nature rather than against it - the Dream Fund has made it possible to pursue ideas that feel too big, until they aren’t. We can't wait to see what the next Dream Fund winners make possible."

The Postcode Lottery continues to champion initiatives that foster innovation and community benefit, encouraging charities to submit proposals that align with these core values for the 2026 funding round.
