Rolls-Royce Named UK's Most Iconic Trade Mark

Rolls-Royce has been crowned the United Kingdom's most iconic trade mark by the British public, according to a recent survey conducted by the Intellectual Property Office (IPO). The luxury automotive manufacturer, which originated in Manchester, was hailed by respondents as a "worldwide metaphor for the best of the best" and a definitive "mark of quality."

Surprising Runner-Up

In an unexpected twist, Radio Caroline, the pioneering offshore radio station, secured the second position on the list. This result saw it outshine a host of well-established brands, including Twinings, Cadbury, Bass, Burberry, the TfL Roundel, Calpol, Mini, and the BBC.

Commemorating 150 Years

The survey was commissioned to mark the 150th anniversary of the United Kingdom's first registered trade mark. On New Year's Day in 1876, Bass & Co's red triangle label became the first official trade mark in British history. This milestone highlights the enduring importance of trade marks in protecting and promoting brands.
