Over 100 Migrants Rescued by French Coastguard After Channel Boat Failure
106 Migrants Rescued in Channel Crossing Attempt

On Sunday morning, the French coastguard rescued 106 migrants from a so-called "taxi boat" in the English Channel after it broke down during an attempted crossing. Several individuals faced difficulties, including a woman who lost consciousness and required evacuation by helicopter.

Three Separate Rescue Operations

A total of 119 people were taken to safety during three separate rescue operations along France's northern coastline on Saturday. These incidents underscore the continued risks associated with Channel crossings, as migrants attempt to reach the UK in small, often unseaworthy vessels.

UK-France Agreement

The rescues occurred shortly after Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood signed a three-year agreement with France, committing £662 million to support beach patrols aimed at reducing migrant arrivals. The deal is part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal migration across the Channel.

Arrival Statistics

Government figures indicate that over 6,000 migrants have arrived in the UK so far this year, representing a 36 per cent decrease compared to the same period last year. Despite the decline, the number of crossings remains a significant challenge for authorities on both sides of the Channel.
