Magaluf 'Wolf Pack' Gang-Rape: Eight Men Sentenced to 73 Years After Plea Deal
In a harrowing case that has shocked the Spanish resort town of Magaluf, eight men have been sentenced to a combined total of 73 years in prison for the gang rape of an 18-year-old British woman. The group, infamously dubbed the "wolf pack," accepted the sentences as part of a plea bargain agreement with prosecutors, narrowly avoiding potential jail terms exceeding 150 years if convicted at trial.
Swift Rescue and Arrests Following the Attack
The horrific incident unfolded at the BH Mallorca Resort in Magaluf, where the victim was subjected to a brutal 30-minute assault. A hotel security guard, arriving for his morning shift, discovered the teenager sobbing on the lobby floor and immediately came to her aid. His prompt intervention was followed by a rapid and efficient police response, leading to the swift arrest of the perpetrators.
Medical examinations revealed bruises on the victim's arm, consistent with being held down during the attack, as well as a cut to her chest. The court heard that the victim had been drinking heavily and had fallen into a state of unconsciousness, rendering her unable to consent to any sexual activity.
Graphic Recordings Prove Crucial in Prosecution
The prosecution's case was significantly bolstered by the men's own actions, as they recorded multiple videos of the assault on their mobile phones. These graphic recordings, which captured some attackers whipping and slapping the victim while others chanted encouragement, served as undeniable evidence of their crimes.
Anthony Auque recorded 14 videos totalling 170 seconds, while Khalil Abderrahmen Mejbri captured five videos lasting 142 seconds. Mohamadou Wade recorded two videos and took a photograph, with the remaining defendants—Anthony Guy Gerard Wengler, Satilmis Sahan, Romain Charles Michel Galatioto, Thomas Eric Coretin Wisniewski, and Lucas Haiaiel Ngandjeu Djamen Tchatchou—also filming the attack on at least one occasion. In a further act of humiliation, Mejbri and Wade shared some of the recordings via the Snapchat app.
Sentencing and Compensation for the Victim
The eight defendants, comprising seven French nationals and one Swiss national, have been ordered to compensate their victim with more than €100,000 (£86,313). Their sentences vary based on the severity of their involvement:
- Khalil Abderrahmen Mejbri and Thomas Eric Coretin Wisniewski each received nine-year sentences for sexual assault with carnal access.
- Anthony Guy Gerard Wengler, Lucas Haiaiel Ngandjeu Djamen Tchatchou, and Romain Charles Michel Galatioto were handed 11-year sentences for the same offence.
- Satilmis Sahan admitted to sexual assault without penetration and was sentenced to four years in prison.
- All eight men received additional sentences of two years and three months for violating the victim's privacy through their recordings.
Legal Proceedings and Future Hearings
The plea bargain was accepted just days before the trial was scheduled to begin, sparing the victim the trauma of giving live testimony. She had already provided a sworn witness statement to investigators, which was deemed sufficient for the prosecution.
Currently, Sahan, Auque, and Wade are on bail, with at least two unlikely to return to prison due to time already served on remand. The remaining five defendants remain incarcerated pending a further court hearing next month, where their defence lawyers are expected to request their expulsion from Spain after serving part of their sentences.
This case underscores the critical role of digital evidence in modern prosecutions and highlights the bravery of the hotel security guard whose quick thinking helped bring the perpetrators to justice.
