Ohio Teen Jailed After Hand Sanitizer Binge Leads to Police Assault
Ohio Teen Jailed After Hand Sanitizer Binge and Assault

An Ohio teenager has been jailed overnight after a shocking incident where she became severely intoxicated by consuming hand sanitizer and subsequently assaulted a police officer. The altercation occurred during a domestic disturbance call at her boyfriend's family residence in Canton on February 16.

Chaotic Arrest Captured on Video

Jade Cain, aged 18, was taken into custody following the disturbance at the home of her boyfriend, Alan King. Video footage obtained by the Daily Mail shows officers attempting to manage the volatile situation. In the recording, an officer is heard repeatedly asking Cain, "What's your issue?" to which she only responds by stating her first name, "Jade."

A woman believed to be King's mother then informs the officer, "She's drunk, I don't know where she got it from." This revelation set the stage for a chaotic arrest attempt.

Resistance and Assault

As officers tried to escort Cain away from the property and into a patrol car, she threw herself onto the ground in apparent protest. After finally being placed inside the vehicle, Cain shouted, "my shoe came off," and then struck an officer in the face. The officer responded by slamming the car door shut.

Destructive Behavior in Custody

Cain was transported to Stark County Jail and placed in a holding cell, where her disruptive behavior continued. According to the incident report, she was "continuously kicking the door and banging her head on the door."

In a further act of defiance, Cain managed to slip her left hand out of the handcuffs and "began slamming the cuffs repeatedly against the window of the door." The excessive force caused the glass to break, sending shards falling to the ground.

Legal Consequences and Prior Incidents

As a result of her actions, Cain has been charged with assaulting a peace officer and vandalism. She is due back in court on Tuesday, with her bond set at $50,000. Police noted that this was the second time officers had been called to the residence due to disturbances involving Cain and King, though no physical violence or threats were found between the pair during this incident.

Dangers of Hand Sanitizer Consumption

The incident highlights the severe risks associated with ingesting hand sanitizer. According to Poison Control, hand sanitizer typically contains between 40 and 95 percent alcohol, far exceeding the 10 to 15 percent found in wine or beer.

Drinking hand sanitizer can lead to serious health issues, including nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, blindness, seizures, comas, damage to the central nervous system, and even death. Officials strongly recommend contacting a local poison control center immediately if someone ingests hand sanitizer.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of substance misuse and violent behavior towards law enforcement.
