A heartbroken Savannah Guthrie has shared an emotional Mother's Day tribute to her missing mother, Nancy, who disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on February 1. The Today show host posted a video compilation on Instagram, captioned: 'Mother, daughter, sister, Nonie. We miss you with every breath. We will never stop looking for you. We will never be at peace until we find you.'
Sunday marked Savannah's first Mother's Day without Nancy, who was last seen by family members on January 31 after a game night. Investigators believe the 84-year-old was kidnapped by unknown captors nearly 100 days ago. Despite some evidence emerging, no arrests have been made.
In early April, FBI agents discovered 'potentially critical' new DNA at Nancy's home, sending samples to a private Florida lab for analysis. Pieces of hair were found inside the property, and authorities are using advanced technology to identify a possible suspect. The Pima County Sheriff's Department previously confirmed that DNA from the home contained multiple contributors.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos recently told a neighborhood watch group that it could take six more months to identify the sample. Five other labs across the US are also working on the case, though details remain unclear. About two dozen investigators from the Pima County Sheriff's Department and FBI are directing the probe.
The investigation has included examining blackmail messages sent to the Guthrie family and media outlets demanding bitcoin ransom for Nancy's return. No ransoms were paid, as the family demanded proof of life but never received it. Authorities could not verify the authenticity of the ransom notes.
Only a few people have been questioned, and no arrests have been made. Evidence includes drops of blood on the front porch, a torn-down doorbell camera, gloves, and surveillance footage of a masked person outside the home. Former Arizona Department of Public Safety Lieutenant Dave Smith suggested Nancy might have been taken to Mexico, noting Tucson is about 60 miles from the border. He described the masked suspect's holstered pistol as 'Mexican carry' style.
Smith also highlighted challenges posed by the rugged terrain, saying arroyos and desert conditions quickly destroy evidence. He mentioned tensions between local investigators and the FBI, with Sheriff Nanos and FBI Director Kash Patel publicly disagreeing over how quickly federal authorities were involved. Patel claimed the FBI was kept out of the investigation for four critical days.
The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy's recovery. Savannah previously acknowledged her mother may no longer be alive but expressed a desperate desire to find her for a Christian burial.
