A staff member at an assisted-living facility in Maryland has been charged with the murder of an 87-year-old millionaire resident, police said. Maurquise Emillo James, 22, of Baltimore, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the death of Robert Fuller Jr., a former lawyer and philanthropist.
Fuller was found unresponsive in his apartment at the Cogir Potomac Senior Living facility on the morning of 14 February after a report of a medical emergency. He was later pronounced dead. Police said they found evidence consistent with a contact gunshot wound to the head, but no gun was recovered.
Surveillance footage showed a masked suspect entering the building through a side door and later fleeing. Police released video of a person with long black hair, a flannel shirt and dark trousers, which led to tips identifying James. Authorities noted that the suspect's long hair was a wig.
James is also charged with attempted murder over the shooting of a state trooper during a traffic stop days after Fuller's death. Police said the same gun was used in both incidents. The trooper was not seriously injured.
Fuller was a millionaire who donated millions to community projects in Maine, including a YMCA, a hospital and a high school expansion. He also helped fund transitional housing for veteran women.
