US Ebola Patient's Family to Join Him in German Quarantine

A US doctor diagnosed with Ebola was reportedly too weak to stand by the time he was evacuated to Germany for treatment. Dr. Peter Stafford, a medical missionary, tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola while serving in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Family to Join in Quarantine

His wife, Dr. Rebekah Stafford, along with their four children and another doctor, are being transported to Berlin's Charite University Hospital, where Dr. Stafford is receiving care. The Christian organization Serge confirmed that the family has departed DRC and is en route to locations where they can be monitored near expert care. All remain asymptomatic.

Condition at Evacuation

According to reports, Dr. Stafford could barely walk when he was evacuated. His condition highlights the severity of the Bundibugyo ebolavirus, a less common but dangerous strain.
