Tennessee Woman Faces Theft Charges After Alleged Raid on Ex-Husband's Home
A Tennessee woman has been arrested and charged with property theft after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars worth of belongings from her ex-husband's residence while he was incarcerated. According to reports from WREG3 and ActionNews5, Caley Spotts, aged 42, is accused of taking more than $30,000 in upscale wine, photographs, and artwork from Joshua Spotts' home on South Greer in Memphis.
Details of the Alleged Theft
Joshua Spotts reportedly informed Memphis Police on March 31 that Caley entered his home between February 27 and March 2 and removed the valuable items while he was in jail. An affidavit obtained by WREG3 reveals that a former boyfriend of the ex-husband allowed Caley access to the property. Initially, Caley told this individual she was only collecting items for her children, but he later stated he witnessed her taking artwork and other belongings and loading them into her vehicle.
Investigators subsequently interviewed Caley, who admitted to possessing the items taken from her ex-husband's home. She was arrested and charged with property theft in connection with the incident. Caley was released on her own recognizance, meaning she was freed without posting bail after promising to attend all court dates, and is scheduled to return to court on April 13.
Background on Joshua Spotts' Legal Troubles
Joshua Spotts, a former realtor, was himself arrested in November 2025 on allegations of stealing money from a property he managed. He faces charges of theft of property valued between $10,000 and $60,000. Court records indicate that Joshua assisted a woman in purchasing property in September and signed a contract to manage it, with responsibilities including collecting rent and security deposits and setting aside funds for maintenance.
Despite this arrangement, the property owner claimed she never received any of the funds and reported a loss of $14,000. She confronted Joshua about the money, but he allegedly cut off communication. Additionally, Joshua was charged in a separate property theft case in 2024, where he is accused of depositing bad checks totaling nearly $25,000 into his bank account and accessing about half of those funds.
The case highlights a complex legal situation involving both parties, with Caley's alleged theft occurring during Joshua's incarceration for his own theft-related charges. Authorities continue to investigate the matters, with court proceedings pending for both individuals.
