Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich is enjoying his second chance at making a 'good living' after being pardoned by President Donald Trump in 2020. The Democrat, now 69, spent eight years in federal prison for trying to auction off Barack Obama's vacated Senate seat in 2008. In a phone interview with the Daily Mail, he expressed immense gratitude for the pardon, calling it a 'miracle' and saying Trump acted as an 'instrument of God.'
Life After Prison
Blagojevich revealed that he now does consulting, lobbying, and has a book coming out titled 'Framed, F***ed and Freed.' The book, due this fall, details his journey from governor to inmate and his eventual pardon. He also registered as a foreign lobbyist for the Republic of Srpska, where his grandparents originated. Additionally, he is helping former Commonwealth Edison CEO Anne Pramaggiore through the clemency process, whom he believes was scapegoated.
Side Hustles and Political Views
Blagojevich continues to do Cameo videos, including one where he helped a man quit his job. He calls himself a 'Trumpocrat' and supports Trump's policies, though he disagrees with Trump's dislike of Taylor Swift, as his daughters are fans. He has declined a run for the US Senate but remains active in criminal justice reform through Weaponization Watch.
Blagojevich noted that his case and Trump's legal battles are similar, saying 'they would do to Trump what they did to me.' He remains open to another reality show appearance, especially if asked by Trump.
