NHL Reporter Jessi Pierce and Her Three Children Die in Minnesota House Fire
The hockey world and a Minnesota community are reeling from a heartbreaking tragedy after a devastating house fire claimed the lives of veteran NHL reporter Jessi Pierce and her three young children. The fire tore through a family home in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, on Saturday morning, leaving four people dead and a community in mourning.
Fire Engulfs Family Home in Early Morning Blaze
The White Bear Lake Fire Department responded to emergency calls reporting a fire at a single-family residence on Richard Avenue just before 5:30 a.m. on Saturday. Neighbors who dialed 911 described seeing flames shooting through the roof and expressed concerns that people might be trapped inside the burning structure.
When fire crews arrived at the scene, the home was already fully engulfed in flames, according to local reports from FOX9. Firefighters bravely entered the burning building and discovered the bodies of one adult and three children who had perished in the blaze. Tragically, a family dog was also found dead inside the home.
NHL Community Mourns Beloved Reporter
The National Hockey League confirmed that 37-year-old Jessi Pierce and her three children were among the victims. Pierce had spent a decade covering hockey in Minnesota, primarily reporting on the Minnesota Wild for NHL.com. She was widely respected throughout the hockey community for her dedication and passion for the sport.
The NHL released an emotional statement expressing profound grief: "The entire National Hockey League family sends our prayers and deepest condolences to the Pierce family on the passing of Jessi Pierce and her three young children. Jessi loved our game and was a valued member of the NHL.com team for a decade. We will miss her terribly."
A Life Dedicated to Hockey and Family
Jessi Pierce was a graduate of Iowa State University who built an impressive career covering hockey across multiple platforms. Beyond her work with NHL.com, she contributed to The Athletic, USA Hockey, the Minnesota Hockey Journal, and Massachusetts Hockey. She also co-hosted the popular "Bardown Beauties" podcast and worked directly with the Minnesota Wild organization.
Just hours before the tragedy, Pierce had shared joyful photos on social media showing her with her children at a local ice cream shop called Cup and Cone. The images captured a happy family moment that has now become a poignant memory for those who knew them.
Colleagues Remember a Vibrant Personality
Michael Russo, who covers the Minnesota Wild for The Athletic, paid tribute to Pierce on social media, describing her as "the most vibrant person – the life of the party, always with a smile on her face, always bringing a passion to every article and podcast and interview she did."
Russo continued: "Jessi simply loved covering the Wild and hockey throughout Minnesota and had a way of brightening everyone's day with her upbeat, bubbly personality. I have literally NEVER met anybody that had a way of being EVERYBODY's friend. More than anything, she absolutely loved her children and was the greatest mother who did everything she could to bring joy to her sweetest kids."
Investigation Underway as Community Grieves
The Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office has taken charge of the investigation into the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined at this time. Authorities are working diligently to understand what sparked the deadly blaze that claimed four lives.
White Bear Lake Fire Chief Greg Peterson expressed the community's collective sorrow: "Our hearts ache for those involved in this tragedy. We ask for the opportunity to allow our community to come together and support one another during this difficult time."
The Minnesota Wild organization also released a statement mourning the loss: "The Minnesota Wild organization is heartbroken by the tragic loss of Jessi Pierce and her children. Jessi was a kind, compassionate person that cared deeply about her family and those around her. She served as a dedicated ambassador for the game of hockey during her time covering the Wild and the NHL. Jessi and her children will be greatly missed."
As the investigation continues, the hockey community and residents of White Bear Lake are coming together to support the Pierce family and remember a reporter whose passion for hockey was matched only by her devotion to her children.
