Manchester City have secured the Women's Super League championship for the first time since 2016, following Arsenal's 1-1 draw with Brighton on Wednesday evening.
Title Decided at Brighton
Third-placed Arsenal, still recovering from their Champions League elimination at the hands of Lyon last Saturday, required a victory to keep the title race alive. With three games in hand over City, manager Renee Slegers knew that only a win would suffice.
Brighton took the lead in the first half through Fuka Tsunoda, but Arsenal responded after the interval when Frida Maanum netted the equaliser in the 62nd minute. However, the Gunners could not find a second goal, and the draw handed the title to City.
City Celebrate Under New Boss
The result means Manchester City can now celebrate winning the league in their first season under head coach Andree Jeglertz. It ends an eight-year wait for the title, adding to their previous triumphs in 2016.
Arsenal's attention now turns to securing a Champions League spot for next season, while City look ahead to their title defence.
