Death in Paradise star Ben Miller has confirmed he will return as Professor Jasper Tempest in ITV's Professor T, with season five expected this autumn and season six already in development. The actor, who played the first lead detective in Death in Paradise, revealed the news on The One Show, saying: 'We've got season five that will hopefully be coming out in the autumn. I mean, spoiler alert, we're actually working on season six. It's a very exciting situation to be in.'
Executive producer Jo McGrath teased that season five will be 'momentous' for Professor T, both personally and professionally, culminating in a trademark series finale. Fans of Death in Paradise have expressed excitement on social media, with one writing: 'My favourite detective is back on screens.' Another commented: 'I was so sad when you died in Death in Paradise.'
Miller also appeared on Sunday Brunch, where he discussed his comedy series Austin. He said series two is not yet available in the UK but has been a hit in Australia, becoming the number one comedy there. He added: 'It is coming soon. I think over the summer, but I don't know, it could be next month.'
Additionally, Miller shared news of his debut adult novel, A Very Dangerous Pursuit, a spy thriller featuring character Richard Hannay. He compared Hannay to James Bond but noted his protagonist is 'useless with gadgets' and 'incredibly self-conscious'. When asked about pressure writing the novel, Miller said: 'It's funny, I didn't think too much about it at the time, it's only now it's come out, and people say 'did you get permission?''
