Betty Broderick, the socialite who gained notoriety for murdering her ex-husband and his new wife, has died at the age of 78 in a California prison. The state Department of Corrections confirmed her death on Friday to People magazine.
Just weeks before her death, Broderick was transferred to a medical center for a 'higher level of care,' according to the agency. The cause of her death has been determined to be natural causes, although the specific ailment remains undisclosed.
Broderick shot her ex-husband, Dan Broderick, and his wife, Linda Kolkena, while they were in bed in November 1989. Dan Broderick had engaged in an affair with Kolkena during the 1980s, after having four children with Betty. The couple filed for divorce in 1985, and Dan married Kolkena, a flight attendant, in 1989.
This is a developing story, and further updates are expected.
