Channel 4's chief content officer, Ian Katz, has stated that the broadcaster prioritised the safety and support of women involved in Married At First Sight UK following allegations of rape and sexual misconduct. Addressing the claims during a press briefing, Katz asserted that appropriate support was provided when issues were first raised.
Allegations Highlighted in BBC Panorama
The allegations, featured in a BBC Panorama documentary, include Shona Manderson's accusation of sexual misconduct and two anonymous women's claims of rape by their on-screen husbands. All three men implicated have denied the allegations against them.
Channel 4's Response
Katz confirmed his involvement in initial decision-making regarding some of the allegations. While expressing confidence in past actions, he stated that Channel 4 would review its welfare processes to ensure continued safety for participants.
The broadcaster's chief executive emphasised that the safety of women on the show was paramount, and measures were in place to address any concerns promptly.
