David Caruso Spotted 13 Years After Quitting Hollywood

David Caruso, the former star of CSI: Miami, was spotted in Sherman Oaks, California, on Monday, marking his first public appearance in years. The 70-year-old retired actor, who left Hollywood 13 years ago, looked markedly different from his days as Lieutenant Horatio Caine. His disheveled appearance included a gray CBGB T-shirt, a beige fedora, and gray sweatpants that slipped down during his outing.

Why Caruso Shuns the Spotlight

According to a source speaking to Radar Online, Caruso has turned down numerous Hollywood invitations over the past decade. The insider speculated that he avoids judgment about his weight, noting that he has let his health decline. The source claimed, 'Everyone in Hollywood is taking Ozempic to lose 10lbs, but David legitimately needs to lose 50lbs. Getting some help from a doctor seems like a good idea.'

From TV Star to Art Dealer

After retiring from acting in 2012, Caruso reinvented himself as an art dealer, opening Caruso Art in Westlake Village, California. However, the gallery permanently closed last year. During his peak on CSI: Miami, Caruso earned $375,000 per episode, but the show was cancelled in 2012 due to low ratings and budget issues. His co-star Eva LaRue expressed sadness over the abrupt end, saying they never got to say goodbye to fans.

Career Regrets and Controversy

Caruso has previously admitted to regretting his departure from NYPD Blue in 1994 after just one season, following demands for a $100,000-per-episode salary. Showrunner Steven Bochco later called him a 'cancerous malcontent' in his memoir. Caruso acknowledged his mistakes, saying, 'Young actors sometimes do very dumb things.' He was replaced by Jimmy Smits.

Caruso is also known for roles in films such as An Officer and a Gentleman, First Blood, and King of New York. He has three children: daughter Greta from his marriage to Rachel Ticotin, and son Marquez and daughter Paloma with Liza Marquez.
