DJ Wins £90k After Brick Injury Outside London Cafe

International DJ Chloe Caillet has been awarded nearly £90,000 in compensation and costs after being struck by falling brickwork outside a London cafe in June 2018. The incident occurred outside the Kipferl Cafe on Golborne Road in North Kensington, where a section of brick cornice fell and hit the 33-year-old musician.

Caillet, who was leaning forward to check her phone at the time, suffered injuries to her neck, shoulder, and foot. She initially claimed the accident prevented her from working for six months and sought nearly £100,000 in damages from building owners O'Hare Holdings Ltd.

However, the company accused her of 'fundamental dishonesty' after discovering she had attended events on multiple continents during the claimed recovery period, including the Burning Man festival in Nevada and promotional appearances for Burberry in New York. Caillet denied the allegations, stating she misunderstood the term 'perform' in legal documents, believing it referred only to active DJ sets rather than passive promotional work.

Following a trial at the Mayor's and City County Court, Recorder Karl King cleared Caillet of dishonesty. O'Hare Holdings was ordered to pay approximately £14,000 in compensation and £75,000 towards her legal costs, totalling nearly £90,000.

The court heard that Caillet, a Paris-born DJ and producer, had lived in New York, Bristol, and Ibiza before settling in Kensal Rise, northwest London. She described the incident as 'frightening' and noted she was fortunate to avoid a direct blow to the head.
