Eric Clapton Hit by Vinyl Record, Cuts Madrid Show Short

Eric Clapton was forced to cut short his recent concert in Madrid after being struck by a flying object thrown from the audience. The incident occurred shortly after he performed his hit song Cocaine at the Movistar Arena on May 7.

What Happened at the Concert

As the 81-year-old guitarist was walking off stage near the end of the show, an audience member hurled a vinyl record at him, hitting him in the chest. Video clips circulating online show what appears to be a vinyl sleeve striking Clapton before he exited without performing his planned encore.

During his 2026 tour, Clapton has been including a cover of Bo Diddley's Before You Accuse Me in his setlist. The Madrid concert marked his first performance in the Spanish capital in 25 years.

Aftermath and Response

Despite the incident, Clapton was reported to be fine. His tour continued without further issue three nights later in Barcelona. Daily Mail has contacted a spokesperson for Clapton for additional comment.

The singer and guitarist is scheduled to perform a one-off concert at Sandringham this summer as part of the HeritageLive series, which returns to The Sandringham Estate in Norfolk from August 20 to 23. Clapton will headline the event on Sunday, August 23.

Giles Cooper of HeritageLive Festivals expressed excitement, stating: "Eric Clapton is one of the greatest musicians of all time and it’s a dream come true for all of us at HeritageLive Festivals to have him play at The Sandringham Estate for us next August. It’s going to be such a special and unique event – one of those gigs where you say in years to come 'I was there!'. We just can’t wait!"
