Karl Stefanovic Mocks Superman's Bisexuality on Today Show

Today show host Karl Stefanovic has sparked controversy after making jokes about Superman coming out as bisexual during Tuesday's broadcast. The 47-year-old mistakenly referred to the superhero as 'gay' and pointed to his costume as evidence.

Discussing DC Comics' announcement that Superman would begin a relationship with his male best friend, Stefanovic said: 'Is it any great surprise to anyone that a dude who wears his underpants on top of his leotard is gay?' Entertainment reporter Brooke Boney added: 'He is very ripped. Straight men don't look after themselves like that.'

DC Comics revealed on Monday that Jonathan Kent, the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, would come out as bisexual in an upcoming issue. The character took over the Superman mantle from his father earlier this year.

The move is part of a 'bold new direction' for the superhero franchise, which has seen Jonathan tackle issues such as climate change and refugee deportation. The announcement follows a similar storyline for Batman sidekick Robin, who was revealed to be dating a man in August.
