Giants' Roy Robertson-Harris Tears Achilles in OTA Blow
Giants' Robertson-Harris Suffers Season-Ending Achilles Tear

The 2026 NFL season remains over three months away, yet the New York Giants have already sustained a devastating injury setback. On Thursday, the franchise was shaken after losing a pivotal member of their defensive line for the entire upcoming campaign.

Star Defender Sidelined

Defensive standout Roy Robertson-Harris suffered an Achilles tendon tear during the team's Organized Team Activities, as reported by The Athletic's Dan Duggan. The 32-year-old defensive end had signed a two-year, $9 million contract with the Giants just last year. He quickly established himself as an indispensable component of New York's defense, starting all 17 games last season. Robertson-Harris was working with the first-string defense at OTAs when he sustained the devastating injury.

Achilles tears typically signify season-ending injuries for NFL players. Given that the injury occurred during the offseason, there exists a slim possibility that Robertson-Harris could return late in the 2026 season, contingent on the Giants' performance and playoff prospects.

Second Achilles Injury

The defensive star becomes the second member of the Giants' roster to suffer a torn Achilles during offseason preparations. Rookie cornerback Thaddeus Dixon tore his Achilles during a workout earlier this month. Dixon had been eager to impress head coach John Harbaugh and the Giants' staff after signing as an undrafted free agent. He played in seven games for Bill Belichick and the University of North Carolina last season. Dixon has since been placed on injured reserve, meaning he will miss his entire rookie season.

Defensive Line Shake-Up

The Giants' defensive line had already absorbed a significant blow earlier this offseason when they traded away Dexter Lawrence. The defensive tackle, one of New York's standout stars, was sent to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for the No. 10 pick in last month's draft. The franchise subsequently used that selection on Francis Mauigoa, an offensive tackle from the University of Miami. To bolster their defensive line, the Giants signed free agents DJ Reader and Shelby Harris, as well as sixth-round rookie Bobby Jamison-Travis. These players will now become crucial to the team's defensive strategy in the wake of Robertson-Harris's injury.
