A 76-year-old man who was stabbed in what police are treating as a terror incident in Golders Green has described his survival as a “miracle” while speaking from his hospital bed. Shilome Rand was attacked as he left a synagogue just after 11am on Wednesday, April 29, suffering a stab wound to the chest. A 34-year-old man was also injured in the attack.
Victim Speaks Out
Speaking to ITV News, Rand expressed deep concern over the safety of his community. “People are really concerned, people are afraid, people are uncomfortable walking in the street,” he said. He criticised the government for failing to address the escalating threats, stating: “The government, they are the ones that are able to take care of the problems. And they are not doing their job.” Rand thanked God for sparing his life, calling his survival a “miracle”.
Series of Attacks
The stabbings come after a series of arson attacks targeting the Jewish community in London over recent months. Rand noted that the community has been suffering from such attacks for months, and now the violence has escalated to attempted murder. “It's for the past few months really that our community is suffering from these type of attacks. And now it's going on and trying to take people's lives and it's really terrible,” he added.
Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have increased patrols in the area to reassure residents.
