Highlander Reboot Filming in Skye Angers Locals with Helicopter Noise
Highlander Reboot Filming Sparks Fury on Isle of Skye

Russell Crowe and Henry Cavill's upcoming Highlander reboot has sparked fury among residents of the Isle of Skye, as filming takes over a remote beauty spot in the Scottish Highlands. The location, considered one of the most picturesque in the region, is home to around 13,000 people along a 50-mile stretch.

Local Complaints

Residents have expressed frustration over the constant noise from helicopters flying around the island. One local told The Sun: 'It seems Russell and Henry are being flown around in three choppers and the din is bloody incessant at times. At first we were quite excited about having Highlander filmed on Skye. It's not often you get big Hollywood actors roaming about. But the helicopters make so much noise that it's hard to think.'

The resident also highlighted the restrictions on public footpaths, adding: 'And the number of restrictions on public footpaths is getting on our nerves. We think they're here for at least a few more weeks and it's just become a huge nuisance.'

Cast and Production

Henry Cavill stars as the immortal hero Connor MacLeod, a role originally played by Christopher Lambert in the 1986 classic. Russell Crowe portrays the centuries-old immortal wanderer Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, famously played by Sean Connery in the original. The reboot's cast also includes Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, and Jeremy Irons. Chad Stahelski, known for directing the John Wick franchise, is directing the film.

Speaking at CinemaCon in April 2024, Cavill teased his sword-fighting skills: 'If you thought you'd seen me do sword work before, you haven't seen anything yet.'

Filming was temporarily halted last year after Cavill sustained a calf injury during training. In October, he shared recovery updates on social media.

The Highlander Franchise

The original Highlander film, directed by Russell Mulcahy, followed Connor MacLeod, a 16th-century Scottish warrior who discovers he is immortal unless his head is severed. The film spawned a successful TV series, four sequels, and multiple adaptations. Despite being a box office flop initially, it became a hit on home video.

Filming for the reboot has taken place at iconic Scottish locations, including Eilean Donan Castle, Glen Coe, Glen Nevis, Loch Shiel, Torridon, and Skye.
